Demon “Glass” Tank

Probably my favorite “seal clubbing” mean machine after the A13 is the Nb.Fz.. For those of you who haven’t encountered this absolute “landship” yet, it is essentially three tanks wearing a trench coat trying to sneak into a Rank I match.

Here is the lowdown on this glorious German premium:

  • The “Double Tap” King: It is capable of one-shotting almost any vehicle it meets because it isn’t just a tank; it’s a rolling artillery battery. It features a 75mm main gun for big explosions and a co-axial 37mm gun for when you need to be a bit more “surgical” about your destruction.
  • The Multi-Tasker: It has two extra machine-gun turrets—one at the front and one at the back—which are perfect for swatting away those pesky “seals” in trucks or just making the battlefield look like a disco with all the tracers.
  • The Glass Giant: You definitely need to get the shot in first because its armor is made of “hope” and “propaganda”. With only about 13-20mm of armor, even a determined player with a heavy machine gun can ruin your day.
  • A Crowd in a Can: It has a crew of 6 men. This is great because even when the enemy thinks they’ve got you, you usually have three or four guys left in the back playing cards who can jump into the driver’s seat and keep the dream alive.
  • Historical Bluffing: Historically, the Germans only built five of these and used them mostly for propaganda to scare people into thinking they had a massive fleet of heavy tanks. In War Thunder, you get to live that lie every single match.

It’s big, it’s slow, and it’s about as subtle as a brick through a window, but man, is it satisfying to pull the trigger on two cannons at once.

Design and Armament

The tank features a complex “landship” layout that allows it to engage multiple targets or fire a powerful combined volley.

  • Main Turret: Houses two primary guns: a 75mm KwK37 cannon for high-explosive and HEAT rounds, and a co-axial 37mm KwK36 cannon for high-velocity anti-tank fire.
  • Secondary Turrets: It possesses two smaller machine-gun turrets located at the front-right and rear-left of the main turret to engage unarmored targets.
  • Crew: It has a large crew of 6 men, which significantly increases its survivability, as it can continue fighting even after taking several hits.

Combat Performance

  • Firepower: The dual-gun setup in the main turret is its greatest strength, allowing the player to fire the 37mm gun while the 75mm is reloading.
  • Armor: Despite being classified as a “heavy tank,” its armor is relatively thin (approx. 13-20mm), making it vulnerable to almost all anti-tank guns and even heavy machine guns at close range.
  • Mobility: It is slow and bulky, with a low top speed that makes it difficult to reposition quickly or retreat from a losing engagement.

Historical Background

The Neubaufahrzeug (meaning “new construction vehicle”) was a pre-war German experimental design intended to fulfill a heavy tank role.

Service History: Three of the vehicles saw actual combat during the 1914 Invasion of Norway. While they were successful against small arms, their mechanical complexity and thin armor limited their future utility.

Propaganda Use: Only five were ever built, and they were used extensively by Germany for propaganda to intimidate other nations by appearing more advanced in tank production than they actually were.
